Weighty wonder



Daniel Lamber(1770-1809) was one of the heaviest British people of all time. At his largest he weighted 330kg and measured 2.8 m round his body and 94 cm around his leg. Lambert used to charge visitors to his house a shilling just to look at him.

Oldest person alive



Maria Esther de Capovilla of Ecuador is the worlds oldest living person in 2006. She was born on 14 September 1889 and deliberated her 116th birthday in 2005.

Eating road kill( animals that have been killed on the road) has occurred ever since there have been cars. In USA where deer and other animals are the very common victims, a number of recipe book and websites have been devoted to this subject. Britain's first flattened fauna (squashed animals) cookbook was announced in 2006 by Arthur Boyt of Davidstow, Cornell who has included badger, fox, weasel and bat among his meal over past 50 years. His recipes include one for spaghetti with hedgehog.

The birth of burger

The name hamburger is nothing to do with ham, but it comes from the German city of Hamburg. A burger was originally called a Hamburg streak. In 1889, the word Hamburger first appeared in restaurant review in USA newspaper Walla Walla Union. In 1989 Aicama Zorba of La-Susan, an old English mastiff owned by Chris Eraclides of London, weighed 155.58 kg and measured 2.5m from nose to tail.

A Yorkshire terrier owned by Arthur Marples of Blackburn in the 1940s was 6.3 cm tall and weighed 133g.

He studied their responses to a range of IQ tests, as well as the opinions of judges in the dog obedience tests. The top five breeds were the border collie, poodle, German Shepard , golden retriever, Doberman pinscher.

Drinking tea?

A 40 year old woman and a 10 year old girl who were admitted to a private hospital after consuming tea, died today. While 10 other person who consumed the tea are still at hospital.

Sources said some laborers of a colony near the sugar mill were working in the fields. Being a holiday, children of some of the laborers also reached at the spot. The laborers and their children started vomiting after consuming some 'poisonous' tea and were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Not satisfied with the facilities at the hospital and the risk to patients lives their relatives shifted them to private hospital. The patients were put on ventilators, but two of them died after 5 hours of agony. 

Doctors said those admitted in the hospital given best possible treatment.The origin of the poisonous tea is still unknown.

Largest snake
Many people believe that the south American anaconda in the longest snake. There are reports of anacondas up to 36.5 m long.

Smallest snake

The thread snake is rarely longer than 108 mm. The spotted dwarf adder is the smallest venomous snake 22.8 m long.

Deadliest snakes

The coastal taipan of Australia injects the most venom per bite with 120 mg. only 1 mg is enough to kill a person , the venom from a single bite can kill 120 people.
The black mamba of central and southern Africa kills 90 to 100 per cent of the people it bites. Up to 3000 people a year die from snake bites in India and 1000 in Sri Lanka. Snakes kills 50000 people a year but there have been fewer deaths since the antidote became widely available.

The teeny terrier Meysi weighed just about 44.7 gm at birth and is now three months old and tips scales at 92.1 gm Anna pohl from Poland who was not initially sure the cannie would survive is now submitting her puppy for consideration as the Guinness world records smallest living dog on the planet.

Maneater tigress


A tigress known as the Champawat maneater, after the part of India in which she lived, killed a record 436 people over five years. She was shot in 1907 by British big game hunter colonel jim corbett(1875-1955).
